Waste Water Pumps and Pumping

Waste water can typically be broken into three categories:

  • Drainage and sump pumping
  • Effluent and screened water pumping
  • Sewage and faeces pumping

The actual pump selection, pipe dimensions, accessory equipment and the consequences of pump failure will be different for the three wastewater types.

Installations can vary from a safe or hazardous environment and usually involve a collection chamber, sump or pit prior to pumping.

The more common installation is a permanent submerged installation in a wet well with base plate and guide rails.Other variants include dry well or even surface mounted options.

The wet well option is the most popular as the pump can be easily withdrawn from and lowered into the wet well along the guide rails minimising the need or confined risk of entering the well chamber.

A guide shoe is bolted to the pump pressure flange which connects automatically to the matching base plate mounted on the wet well floor, where the pump is kept in place by its own weight. The pump motor cooling is by submergence in the liquid.

The actual choice of pump and impeller is decided based upon the liquid being pumped.

It is important to eliminate elements of risk of clogging, excessive wear and tear and overheating of the pump motor.

Dirty Water / Waste Water Applications
  • Storm and Foul water packaged pumping stations
  • Grey water / rain water recycling
  • Effluent pumping
  • Domestic sewage
  • Raw Sewage

Dirty Water / Waste Water Examples

  • Caravan parks
  • Sports and leisure facilities
  • Single or multiple residential developments
  • Waste water utility treatment works
  • Car Park storm water / drainage pumping
  • General construction site de-watering
  • Food and factory process effluent

Maintenance and Repair

Submersible sewage pumps should be subjected to routine inspection and serviced yearly.

The scheduled maintenance in most cases can be performed on site.

Early detection of a problem can save costs and downtime in the long run in industrial processes and unnecessary inconvenience and discomfort in residential applications.

At Panks we have the ability to remove pumps safely and conduct the specialist repair required at our workshop.

We have facilities and spares back up to react quickly and efficiently in order to provide the best turnaround time possible.
